GATE or the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering in an All-Indian scale examination conducted in the eight zones of the country by the GATE committee that consists of esteemed IISc, Bangalore and seven IITs and on behalf of the National Coordinating board- GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India.
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is conducted to identify commendable aspirants for getting admission to varied post graduate courses such as Engineering, Technology, Architecture and Pharmacy at the National level.
GATE is a mandatory qualification for admission in many post-graduate engineering colleges as well as institutions across the country. After qualifying for GATE, students find ways to get admission with attractive scholarships in assistantship post-graduate courses in engineering, technology, architecture, pharmacy at engineering colleges, institutes located in the length and breadth of the country.
Additionally, for colleges of their choice, candidates need to find out the procedure of final selection and award of assistantship from the allied institution. Also, those who clear GATE successfully are also eligible foe junior research fellowship in CSIR Laboratories.

Obviously after M.Tech students get an opportunity to pursue Ph.D. Masters degree is beneficial for those who further Research positions in educational as well as R&D institutes. Those who are in 3rd year of their study or those who are appearing for Final year must sit for GATE as the results for GATE are valid for 2 years and the required syllabus of GATE is over within 5 semesters.
