National Institute of Technology Agartala was formerly reckoned as TripuraEngineeringCollege which is the only degree level engineering college in Tripura with the aim to offer qualitative technical education to the aspiring, dynamic and eligible candidates of the state and the region. The National Institute of Technology got established in the year 1965 with the three traditional branches of Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.
Earlier the Institute was affiliated to the CalcuttaUniversity, but after TripuraUniversity came into being, the college got affiliated to the TripuraUniversity which is now approved by AICTE. The developmental programmes have been carried out in an optimistic manner due to the modernization and re-orientation of the laboratories, expansion of computer facilities, library modernization, introduction of continuing education cell and institution of national level research center in selected regions such as Geo-technology and Information Technology. Furthermore, AICTE has also granted permission to introduce three new degree level courses in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Production Engineering and Transportation Engineering in the NIT, Agartala that is supposedly started from 2005-06. Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility of candidates is essential in order to secure a seat in the M.Tech courses offered by the institution. The candidates are supposed to have B.E/B.Tech or equivalent degree in the relevant discipline with not less than 60% marks in the qualifying examination. Also in order to get admission in M.Tech, the candidates are supposed to have bachelor’s degree in engineering/technology or equivalent in an appropriate discipline with atleast 60% marks or equivalent for General/OBC category students and 55% marks in case of SC/ST category of students. However, valid GATE scores for full time students are required for receiving Institute assistantship only.

Selection
Those candidates who meet the eligibility criteria and fulfill the requirements of hard copy documents are considered for selection in the final round. Also, candidates who are appearing for B.E/B.Tech (Final Semester) can apply for the aforesaid Master’s programmes. Candidates are supposed to qualify the GATE entrance appropriately in the particular discipline of qualifying degree of GATE paper. Moreover, they have to clear the GATE examination along with all years of study considered as criteria for preference.
