Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is conducted to analyze the reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking and analytical writing skills allied to any specific field of learning. The test criteria also require knowledge of vocabulary, math and analytical writing. GRE is administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) in US and several other countries.
GRE is a computer-based test which is carried out for aspirants who strive to pursue Masters in US, UK, Australia or Canada. The score of GRE is used for admissions or fellowship panels to supplement undergraduate records and other qualifications. This is a standardized test that is considered as a requirement for several graduate schools in United States and other English speaking countries.
Although the test is conducted at selected qualified testing centers in different parts of the world, but countries such as Juneau and Alaska having lack of technological requirements have been allowed to carry out paper-based exams.
In graduate school admissions process, GRE scores are highly emphasized but are varied as per the schools and departments within schools. There are colleges where GRE score is just a formality whereas there are institutes that consider the score as a mandatory requirement.
Eligibility
As far as eligibility is concerned for appearing in GRE, anyone or everyone is eligible for GRE. There is no qualification or age barrier for sitting for GRE. The test scores are valid for five years and all the universities accept 5 year old scores. But the recent scores are always better.
