If the length becomes 1/4 times of its original then the resistance will become 1/16 times the original resistance.

And please clear this, is the new length l/4 or l+l/4?

This Post 22 points    (Olaaa!! Perrrfect answer.   in 5 votes )   [?]

Sorry Krishna Sir, But I disagree. There is no actual displacement of the point of contact while the friction acts on it, if walking is done without slipping. So how can work done be non-zero?

There has been a discussion on this topic before:

Friction is CAUSED by electrostatic forces between the surfaces. These forces act normal to the surfaces in contact. And whatever work is done by friction is done tangentially to the surfaces. Work done by friction is never normal to the surface. Hence it is clear that inspite of it being caused by electrostatic forces, the work done by it is independant of them.

Conservatives forces can be thought of as forces which conserve mechanical energy. hence net work done is irrespective of the path taken.

However in the case of friction the energy is dissipated as heat and cannot be retrieved. For paths that have friction acting for a longer period of time, greater amount of energy is lost.

Friction is not a field force in its manner of working. Hence it can't be counted among conservative forces inspite of its origins in the electromagnetic force.

I mean no direspect to any expert.

And I dont guess they would be utterly upset by a light jab in good humor.

What they do for this site, is something that can't be appreciated enough.

@Viper: Friend, that day is yet to come, when I'll have to learn about respect from you.

The Internet was originally designed as a source of information to challenge the ever increasing power of belligerently stupid nincompoops . However as a result of infiltration by moles from their top secret organizations, the Internet was taken over by them in an unprecedented coupe of power.

Since then it has become an unbelievably powerful and useless useful source of Facebook status msgs for you. With the advent of cutting edge fiber optics technology , there have been un-foreseen diversifications of the net. Which include stock trading, online examinations, online booking and yeah who can forget porn.

In the year 2005 the Internet was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, for being the source of sending out the common message for peace and environment conservation and sustenance and to stop global warming and to capture that guy , and also for reducing the price of licensed software (wait, that was wasn't piracy!)

You add mass into the system so reading will increase. The buoyant force counterbalances mg. so mg will be included in the reading.

You are doing this just to increase your posts, right?

Thanks for the appreciation though. Its one of the more complex questions that I have come by. Took me about an year to come to the answer. So if that is appreciated it is wholly gratifying.

A non-invertible square matrix is a singular matrix. A square matrix with an inverse in non-singular.
