There has been a spurt in recruitment of students from Indian Institute of Technology-Madras by top-notch companies this year. About 733 students have been placed till now this year compared to 554 in the same period last year.
IIT-Madras advisor (training and placement) N. Ramesh Babu said the institute’s placement drive started on December 1 last year and is likely to end by March this year. As many as 1,137 students have registered for placement and 733 have got offers from various companies till now.
“Last year 1,073 registered for placements and 137 companies had recruited 554 students. A total of 106 companies visited IIT-M to recruit students last year with Tower Research offering the highest salary of Rs 28 lakh per year,” he said.
More companies have also visited IIT-M for placements this year. About 187 multi national companies are attending the placement drive as against 137 last year.
Some of the companies that recruited IITians include, GE India, Airbus India, Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, NTPC, BHEL, EIL, McKinsey, Deutsche Bank, Boston Consulting group, Schlumberger, Tanker Pacific, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Yahoo, IOCL, etc.
This year Transocean offered the highest salary of about Rs 28 lakh per annum with Morgan Stanley offering Rs 25 lakh per year. The average salary this year is approximately Rs 7.5 lakh per year as compared to Rs 6.9 lakh last year.
