The NIT, previously known as the Bihar College of Engineering (BCE), on Sunday held its Alumni Meet in which the students who passed out half a century ago in 1961, were felicitated.
Chief minister Nitish Kumar, who also studied in this institution, was also present. However, he neither went on the dais nor spoke. He sat for about half an hour in the front row.
Several students of 1961 batch, who observed their golden jubilee, were felicitated by rural works minister Bhim Singh, also an alumnus of BCE who had been teaching at the NIT till sometime back.
It was an emotional moment for the alumni, all of them in their seventies, who met after a long time. Many of them were physically helped to go to the dais to receive the award. Nitish clapped to greet them.
Many among them ,who retired as teachers of the BCE, had also taught Nitish. The organizers tried to prod Nitish to address, but he politely refused. The organizers said that the CM came on the condition that he would not be forced to speak on the campus where he studied.
The alumni meet also provided the opportunity to the students of NIT to meet the old boys of BCE who shared their experience and moments with the young boys and girls.
The alumni meet is held every year on the first Sunday of February. On the occasion, Surendra Kumar presented secretary s report and Santosh Kumar came with Alumni Association s budget which was passed by voice vote.
