No takers for govt's new offer on BE fee

Private engineering colleges have rejected the government's renewed offer of Rs 32,500 as BE fee under government quota for next year. The government, which wanted the fee to be fixed at Rs 30,000, agreed to increase it by Rs 2,500, but the offer was rejected by the colleges.

Higher education minister V S Acharya held yet another round of talks with representatives from the Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering Colleges' Association on Thursday over BE fee for students qualifying via the state Common Entrance Test. The colleges have been demanding a fee of Rs 50,000. Although the CET concluded on Thursday, there has been no consensus on engineering fee.

HC notice over fee report

A vacation division bench of the high court on Friday ordered notice to the fee regulation committe and the state government. This, on a plea filed by Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering Colleges Association seeking for a direction to the government to make public the fee fixation committee report. The committee is headed by Justice B Padmaraj.

The court had asked the registry to club the petition along with the one filed by R L Jalappa Institute of Technology seeking similar relief.
