Jamia Millia Islamia administration on Thursday has handed over to police a first year B Tech student for taking admission in the varsity after allowing someone to appear in the entrance test last year on his behalf.
According to Simi Malhotra, media coordinator, "The vigilance team, led by professor Khalid Moin, dean, faculty of engineering and technology, caught Krishna Baloni after it noticed that there was a mismatch between the photograph of the student who had appeared for the end semester examinations and the one who had secured admission by appearing in the entrance test last year.''
The fingerprints of the student taken at the time of the entrance test also did not match with that of Krishna Baloni's. "When Baloni was interrogated by the proctor of the university, professor Masood Alam, the student confessed that he had not appeared for the entrance test and that someone else had appeared on his behalf,'' said Malhotra.
The varsity had started the drive to check aspirants from engaging others to appear in the entrance test on their behalf last year itself. The Jamia administration has adopted a number of mechanisms to check such fraud, and one of the measures is to photograph the students appearing in the entrance test.
