The third annual cultural festival of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Gandhinagar concluded on an action-packed Sunday, where the festival’s finale mood in the evening was sent to tizzying heights by a German rock-band.
More than 5,000 students from all over Gujarat participated in the festival. With the theme of ‘Cinema through Ages’, the two-day festival had a number of competitions and performances.
“This is the first time that an international rock band is performing at IIT Gandhinagar,” said Shashank Pandey, one of the organising members of the festival. German rock band, ‘Fire on Dawson’, enthralled the audience with their head banging music is the first European band to perform in Gujarat, Pandey said.
Talking about the event, another student member Harsh Paliwal said, "Apart from the rock band, we also had a rock band from Kerala - 'Mother Jane'- which performed on the campus. Also, this time we had a special performance by the popular stand up comedian and poet Dr Kumar Rishwas."
We wanted to portray the transition of cinema from the last 50 years to the present times through the theme 'Cinema through Ages', said Pandey, adding, "We had a special screening of some non-commercial documentaries. Also, a competition titled 'The Butler Did It' involved solving crime cases through the films that were screened."
More than 1,200 students from all over the state participated in more than 50 competitions that were held in the span of two days. Talking about the competitions, another organising member Ravi Agarwal said, "We received maximum participation in five competitions- 'The Butler Did It', 'Jobless', Bicmark', 'Political Atyachar' and 'Siege'. Political Atyachar had participants play the role of politicians who were taken to mock court for clarifications and accusations. Jobless consisted of interviews wherein the participant had to deal with tough questions and still impress the judges."
