A national body of unaided professional educational institutions today claimed regulations framed by government and authorities such as the AICTE were hampering growth of education in private sector. The new set of AICTE regulations for starting new colleges and fee structure was "illegal and unwarranted dictates" and "a clandestine" move to take over control of the institutions, Federation of Associations of Management of Unaided Professional Educational Institutions in India (FAMPEI) President Dr G P C Nayar alleged here. Considering the target set by HRD Ministry to increase the Gross Enrolment Ratio from nine million now to 30 million in 2020, it would be very difficult task without taking into confidence the private sector, he told reporters here. The federation was of the opinion that the government should act constructively rather than trying to curb private sector involvement in education, Nayar said.
