An official of the education department was allegedly shot dead near his residence in the capital by unidentified bike-borne assailants in south Delhi. The incident was reported from Khanpur at around 10.30pm when the victim was reportedly returning home. The victim has been identified as Naveen Rawat, who works as Additional Deputy Commissioner in Sanskrit Vidyapeeth in Janakpuri, said police.
Naveen was returning home with his mother and relatives after attending a ceremony at his cousin's residence when the incident took place, said sources. He was rushed to Batra Hospital where he was declared brought dead, claimed officials.
"Prima facie it seems to be a case of personal enmity as there was no robbery attempt. We are probing all angles. The family's statement has been recorded. The bikers were reportedly wearing helmets. Rawat was shot at on his forehead," a senior police official said.
Rawat, who lived in Raju Park area in Khanpur, is survived by his wife, four-year-old daughter, mother and father. The deceased's father, Daya Singh, works in a private company.
