Day two of Common Entrance Test (CET), 2011 proved to be better than day one, for most of the candidates seemed complacent about the papers.

Most candidates said physics and chemistry papers were easy compared to mathematics and biology papers. Devaraju R of KLE PU College said, “Compared to maths and biology, physics and chemistry papers proved to be easy. But the chemistry paper was really tricky compared to that of the previous years.”

Although easy, some candidates felt physics paper was a little too lengthy than chemistry. “Physics was a real challenge. But I managed to crack both the papers within the given time,” said Akshatha of MES College.

Even the faculties and subject experts shared the same opinion.
Analysing the physics questions, Prof Dasharathi, faculty of physics, BASE, said, “It was a moderate paper. An average student can attempt 30 to 40 questions in 70 minutes. A student with good time management skills can answer 60 questions in 70 minutes. The syllabus coverage was balanced.”

“Weightage given from first PU syllabus was 32%, second PU syllabus 68%, easy questions 25%, moderate questions 50%, difficult questions 20%, and ambiguous questions 5%,” said Dasharathi.

Analysing chemistry paper questions, Prof YK Jayaramappa, BASE, said, “The paper was moderate, and the syllabus coverage was balanced except for slightly more number of questions from physical chemistry (second PU) and less number of questions from inorganic chemistry.”

“Weightage given was 18 questions from I PU and the rest from II PU syllabus, Easy questions comprised 30 and there were 10 moderate questions,” he said.
