The Haryana assembly Monday passed bills to raise the retirement age of vice chancellors (VCs) and pro-vice chancellors to 68.

Earlier, the retirement age was 65 years.

The decision will benefit vice chancellors of the Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya, Khanpur Kalan (near Sonipat) and Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa.

Health and Education Minister Geeta Bhukkal said that highly experienced and eminent persons are required to be appointed on these posts, but many times, such eminent and experienced persons are not available.

She added that the age limit was being raised so that eminent and seasoned persons could be retained for the effective administration of the universities.
