See i am not sure if my ans would be correct because it is too simple.

u had said earlier the vessel is sealed, so i take it as a closed vessel which is transparent.

first mark the water level. then invert it. if the water level is greater than the marked level, then it means the water in the vessel is more than the volume of vessel. if water level and the marked r same then the volume is less and if water level is lower the volume is less.

think this: suppose the vessel is pot-shaped n its centre of mass lies somewhat nearer to the base. Imagine the pot vessel is fully filled with water so that in effect u have a solid body with two constituent layers (one th pot, other the water body that is jam-packed)where wud u now expect the centre of mass to be? Another case:: the vessel has a very thick bottom compared to its other walls.even if u fill it more than half wid water, the centre of mass wud not shift very much upwards. How can u conclude whether th vessel is half-filld or more than half filled??AND, if u consider th "double-storeyd" vessel like my previous post shows, i think u can't get an answer even if u HAVE th centre of mass for th vessel because now the distribution of water is unknown! wid reference to th picture, suppose u have all th water in th upper level. No matter where u get ur centre of mass of th vessel+water arrangement, how will u calculate th amount of water inside?? I wish th interviewer had nt said th word "irregulr"
